17歳の頃、ジャルダン美術研究所という画塾に体験入会したのが、僕の絵の道の始まりでした。気づけば、人生の半数以上を絵を描いて過ごしてきました。
絵は、僕にとって「学校」のような存在です。
絵を通じて、僕は本当にたくさんのことを学びました。
動物の骨格や美術史、デザインといった絵に直接関わる知識はもちろん、生き方や仕事術、歴史の教訓まで、絵というフィルターを通して試すことができました。そして、その試みの結果は、作品の中に目に見える形で表れます。
例えば、松下幸之助さんの「失敗したところでやめてしまうから失敗になる。成功するところまで続ければ、それは成功になる」という言葉。これを本で知った時も感銘を受けたのですが、その本当の意味を体験したのは、絵を描いている時でした。本を読んだり、人と話したりして得た教訓を絵に応用することで、それが自分の実体験となり、深く身につくような気がしています。
僕は、子どもの頃から、動物が好きでした。
テレビや図鑑で動物を見ては、それを夢中で絵に描いていました。途中、ポケモンや漫画を描く時期もありましたが、動物はいつも僕のお気に入りのモチーフでした。
動物を描いていると、「世界は広いな」と感じます。
どこへ行っても、人の目が気になり、心ない一言を言われたり、仕事に追われたりする毎日です。
でも、ふと「今この瞬間、世界のどこかではクジラが潮を吹いていたり、シロクマが空を見上げていたりするんだろうな」と想像すると、心が軽くなります。彼らが地球にいてくれて良かったと、心から思います。
今回の展覧会では、そんな大切な存在である動物たちを、とても思い入れのある紙という素材で表現しました。
この作品たちが、皆さんの心に少しでも何かを届けられたら、これ以上嬉しいことはありません。

Toward the “Paper Play” Exhibition
Starting from when I was 17, I’ve been on a journey with art, which began with a trial enrollment at an art school called Jardin Art Institute. For me, painting is like a school.
Through painting, I’ve learned so much. It’s not just about things directly related to art, like animal anatomy, art history, and design. I can also use art as a filter to experiment with lessons from life, work, and history. The results of these experiments show up visibly in my work.
For example, take Konosuke Matsushita’s quote: “It only becomes a failure when you quit. If you keep going until you succeed, it becomes a success.” I was moved when I first read this in a book, but I truly understood its meaning while I was painting. By applying lessons from books or conversations to my art, I feel like I get to experience them firsthand, and those lessons become a deep part of me.
I’ve loved animals since I was a child. I’d watch them on TV or in books and then draw them with passion. Though I went through phases of drawing things like Pokémon and manga, animals have always been my favorite subject.
Drawing animals makes me feel like the world is a big place. On a daily basis, I feel like I’m always under the scrutiny of others, hearing unkind words, or being chased by work I have to do. But when I imagine that at this very moment, a whale is spouting water somewhere in the world, or a polar bear is looking up at the sky, my heart feels lighter. It reminds me that the world is vast. I truly believe it’s a good thing that they exist on this planet.
In this exhibition, I’ve expressed these important animals using my own style with paper.
There would be nothing that makes me happier than if these works can convey something to your hearts.
With just two months left until the exhibition, I’ll give my all in the final push!
